How to check any pool contractor before you hire
Reviews are useful, but read them for specifics: what was done, whether the crew showed up when promised, how problems were handled and whether the finished pool held up after a few months.
- Look for detail. A review that names the work, such as a new quartz finish or replaced coping, tells you more than five stars and one line.
- Read the low ratings. Every contractor gets one eventually. What matters is whether the company answered and fixed it.
- Ask for a written, itemized estimate. It should separate the finish, tile, coping, deck and equipment, and say what isn't included, such as permitting or hidden conditions.
- Confirm insurance. Ask for a certificate of insurance before work starts. EDX Pools is insured and can provide one.
- Check the contractor's state record. You can look up Florida contractor certifications and registrations at myfloridalicense.com.
